Imo State has advanced over the years to become one of the foremost fish producing states in Nigeria. A lot of farmers have gone into fish farming either at a subsistent level or as a commercial enterprise.
It is also worthy to note that the fish farmers in the state have a lot of constraints in the business apart from post harvest loss. Fish feed is very expensive and almost above the reach of most farmers. With a 15kg pellet fish feed costing as much as four thousand five hundred (4,500.00), most fish farmers cannot break even after each cycle of production.
The only way to assuage their suffering in this respect is the establishment of fish feed mills in the state. This underscores the dire need for investment in the area of fish feed manufacturing.
